The crimes – two burglaries, one non-dwelling burglary, two attempted burglaries, one theft of a motorcycle and seven thefts from motor vehicles, secure and non-secure – are thought to be connected.

Councillors were told that Weston-super-Mare had also been hit hard recently.

There were 182 police logs for June – not all of these calls required police attendance.

Recorded crimes were: theft seven, criminal damage four, domestic incidents – including arguments – eight, harassment 12, public order one, other crimes 12, non-dwelling burglary two, dwelling burglary two, ASB (anti social behaviour) three, total 59. Missing people reports two.

Councillors were told that the number of recorded crimes had increased due to the overnight crimes on June 29 (13).

PC Mick Dunn’s report to councillors added: “Wellington police are working as hard as ever to prevent crime and in

partnership with Wellington One Team

are meeting twice a week to discuss recurring problems and families that need assistance.

“If any councillors want to talk in person with one of the beat team, please ask them to email or call me.

“The town beat surgery is at Wellington Town Council offices every Tuesday at 2-5pm. Wellington Police Station is still open to the public from 10am-2pm on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
