WELLINGTON’S temporary public library premises in North Street is being forced to close for a day next month.

Somerset Council moved the library to the former WHERE charity centre opposite the town’s fire station in June while a refurbishment was being carried out to its Fore Street premises.

It is due to move back to Fore Street once the £1.4 million refit has been completed late next year.

But tree works which need to be carried out close to the temporary library facility mean it will be closed for a day on Saturday, October 7.

The work was due to have been carried out earlier in the summer but was postponed because of bad weather.

Somerset Libraries head Darren Smart said North Street would be closed for the tree work to take place and overhead power cables would be shut down.

Mr Smart said: “We will have to close the library in order for this work to be completed.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

“Any books that are due back will be renewed for an extra two weeks with a due date of at least Monday, October 23, giving extra time in which to return them.

“If you have items out that are overdue prior to October 7, they will be automatically renewed, but you will have the overdue charge to pay.”

Mr Smart said books could also be returned to any other Somerset library, with libraries in Taunton, Wiveliscombe, and Dulverton remaining open as usual.

People could also check return dates via their library account at www.librarieswest.org.uk or use the LibrariesWest app.

If anybody needed help logging in, or had any queries about their loans, library staff were available to help by email at [email protected] or calling 0300 123 2224.

Mr Smart said the Wellington temporary library would re-open on Monday, October 9, at 9.30 am.
