SICK vandals have torn down Christmas decorations from the garden of a woman with terminal cancer and a disabled ex-firefighter.
Simon Waygood and his wife Teresa, both 57, woke up to find Christmas lights in the road outside their semi-detached bungalow in Barn Meads, Wellington, having been ripped off their front wall.
Simon, who has decorated the outside of his home for a number of years, said: “I enjoy doing it. I would just like to get my hands on those that did this. I only put the lights and decorations up on Saturday afternoon.
“Just to rip them off and leave them in the road is senseless. I never heard anything. I will have to go out and buy some more.”
This is a particularly difficult time for the couple because Teresa has cancer in three places and spends a lot of time at the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
Simon, a part-time firefighter for 27 years until suffering two accidents while on duty in the space of six months, added: “Teresa is very ill and it’s unlikely she will see another Christmas.
“I cannot see what satisfaction can be had from doing this.”
The Waygoods have one daughter, Hanna, who is 19 and training to be a doctor in Plymouth.
The decorations were vandalised after 10.30pm on Sunday, December 4, and the police would like to hear from anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious that night.
