VILLAGERS cleaned their streets in the autumn ‘Grand Uffculme Litter Pick’ (GULP) on Saturday morning – and then displayed it in a large cage in The Square, to the astonishment of locals.

Special meeting of Wiveliscombe councillors to look again at town centre parkingA highlight of the day was a performance by local drama group Uffculme Amateur Dramatics Society (UADS). The cast, mainly children, were dressed in clothes covered in litter to highlight the problem. They were accompanied by three cute terriers in their own litter outfits.
Spectators were entertained with songs and poems all relaying the message of ‘Please Don’t Drop Rubbish’. UADS went on to stage a short peaceful protest to passing vehicles and pedestrians.
The village stages a litter pick twice a year.
