Planning applications in and around Wellington from Somerset CouncilDeputy Lieutenant of Somerset and shop volunteer Gloria Craig cut the ribbon to declare the shop open following a short speech by management committee chairman Alex Antill, who thanked everyone who had contributed to the project.
The shop, which started trading last month, is an extension to the village hall just down the road from its former premises in Saxon Close.
Money and support for the project came from the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund and Somerset Community Foundation. Eleven 10 Architecture designed the building and Blue Wave Construction built it.
The shop, which has remained open throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, uses local suppliers where possible.
It is seeking volunteers – sessions are in the daytime and no longer than two-and-a-quarter hours, and training will be provided. For more details phone 01823 461631.
