BISHOPS Lydeard is again celebrating Somerset Day with its ‘Yarnbomb’ – an array of fabric craftwork dotted around the village – throughout May.
Based on Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days, the installation is one of many ways of celebrating Somerset Day on Saturday, May 11.
Tea and cake will be served in the St Margaret’s Hospice Sunflower Centre in Taunton from 1-3pm on Friday, May 10, and there are also crafts fairs, tea parties, cider and cheese tastings, and other Somerset-style events lined up during the month.
The Pride of Somerset Youth Awards will be held at Bridgwater and Taunton College on May 10. People have until April 12 to nominate a young person under 20 who lives in Somerset and whose achievements deserve recognition.
Now in its fifth year, Somerset Day is growing in popularity. Last year, more than 200 events took place – and many more are expected this year.
Nigel Muers-Raby, founder of Somerset Day, said: “The excitement is building to this year’s Somerset Day. Based on the success of 2018, we know that this year will be bigger and even better!
“With food and craft fairs, exhibitions, competitions, concerts and, of course, tea parties, we’re hoping everyone in the county uses Somerset Day as a chance to come together and celebrate all that’s great about Somerset.”
The full programme will be available on Somerset Day’s new website. Organisers of community events may also upload details at www.somersetday.com
