THE Labour Party have selected their candidate for the upcoming Wellington Town Council by-election for the Rockwell Green Ward.

Beth Hill, who lives in Wellington and works as an NHS healthcare assistant, has launched her campaign this week.

Beth said, “I’m proud to call Wellington my home. I know how strong the sense of community is, how kind people are, and the pride people have in our town. This has inspired me to stand as a candidate.”

She added:"It’s very important to me that local voices are heard and listened to. While the Liberal Democrats running Somerset Council have created a financial mess, town and parish councils across the county are keeping things going.

“Somerset Council are slashing everyday services and small towns like ours have been left to pick up the pieces. That is why this election is so important.”

Beth said she sees the pressure families face every day through her work on the NHS frontline and wants to make a real difference for them.

“Working families are struggling with things like the cost of living. I want to work with the other councillors to listen and focus on delivering what matters to residents; safe streets, good green spaces, and making Wellington the best place in which to live and grow up.”

Tessa Dean, a fellow NHS worker and Chair of Taunton and Wellington Labour Party, said: “Beth will be a fantastic town councillor. She’s compassionate, hard working and genuinely understands the issues that matter.”

“In this election, it’s crucial to focus on what affects Wellington directly. Beth offers a strong voice for residents in Rockwell Green. She will stand up for the town’s needs and keep the focus on what really matters to local people.”

• Also standing in the election for Rockwell Green councillor are: Andy Denison, Reform UK; George Western, Liberal Democrats; Edward Yates, Conservative Party. Voting for the election will take place on Tuesday, February 10, between 7 am and 10 pm.
