ACTION needs to be taken to clear a communal area of land known as ‘The Dip’ in Jurston Lane, Wellington, says one of the road’s residents.
LibDem town councillor Peter Critchard says Taunton Deane Borough Council adopted the area in 2005 but has not maintained it.
He has been in touch with officers at the borough council but so far nothing has been done and now he has asked for the matter to be put on the agenda for the town council’s August meeting.
Mr Critchard says council staff regularly cut the verges but not the area further away from the road which, he says, has only received attention two or three times since Taunton Deane adopted it and is now overgrown.
“Local delivery drivers use it as a toilet and people who walk their dogs there can’t possibly pick any mess up – even though there’s signs telling them they will be fined if they don’t do so.
“The Dip forms part of the flood plain and has hard core at the bottom but that is all covered with all sorts now.”
Mr Critchard added: “There’s no other land in Wellington that I am aware of that is owned by Taunton Deane that is not managed – and this is not managed.
“We know funds are tight but we pay our council tax and I think it should provide a service. The Dip should look like it’s cared for – at the moment it’s just waste ground.”
