TWO new bus shelters were erected last week, ending years of waiting in the rain for residents of the Cades Farm and Longforth Farm and housing estates in Wellington.
The £10,000 project should have happened early in the second phase of house building at Cades Farm, after the bus stops were built during phase one.
But nobody collected the money promised by the housing developers for the bus shelters until the issue was taken up last year by newly-elected Wellington town councillor John Thorne.
Cllr Thorne, who visited the new bus shelters with Cllr Gary James, whose ward includes Cades Farm, said: “I am delighted the developers have delivered on their promise and people living in the new houses can have some protection from the wind and rain while waiting for buses.
“Each time I have gone past since the shelters went up I have seen mums with pushchairs and other people using them.”
Cllr James said: “The bus shelters are a very welcome and useful facility for residents and they now start to help define the approach to Wellington as a town.
“This is just one of many small-scale projects which we can work on as a town council to help make our community a better place in which to live.”
