POLICE have appealed for any witnesses to a car crash in which two people were injured at a notorious crossroads on the A38 near Wellington.

The crash happened at about 9.20 pm on Saturday at the Heatherton Grange junction of the A38 with the West Buckland and Bradford on Tone roads.

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust sent two double-crewed land ambulances to the scene and took two casualties for treatment in Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

A Wellington fire crew was also alerted to the incident when it was initially feared somebody was trapped in one of the vehicles, but they did not need to attend.

A Somerset Council highways team attended to clear a fuel spillage from the road, which remained partly blocked for about two-and-a-half hours.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “Inquiries into the collision are ongoing.

“Witnesses are asked to contact us online or call 101 and give reference number 5225350336.”

West Buckland Parish Council has for years called for a scheme to improve safety at the crossroads, which has seen a string of crashes.

Somerset Council said a possible safety scheme for the junction would be investigated during a New Year road resurfacing project from Wellington to Taunton when the A38 would be closed to traffic.
