TWO fire engines from Wellington and one from Taunton were mobilised on Monday afternoon (December 15) when part of a rural home on the Blackdown Hills caught alight.

Smoke was seen issuing from the property in Clayhidon at about mid-day and an emergency call made to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue (DSFR).

The cause of the fire turned out to be items which had been left unattended on a cooker.

The firefighters confirmed smoke logging inside the building and went to work using two sets of breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and a safety jet, a positive pressure ventilation fan, and a triple extension ladder, while a thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots

A DSFR spokesperson said the cause was deemed accidental.
