LADIES of the chorus have started rehearsing for Wellington Arts Association Operatic Society’s next production, Sugar, the Some Like It Hot musical.

But they are hoping to attract more male support, as at present they outnumber the men, who are needed to take on the roles of gangsters and millionaires in the show.

Rehearsals take place at Wellington Arts Centre, Eight Acre Lane on Mondays and Thursdays at 7.30pm and auditions are not being held for chorus members, so new actors are welcome to just go along or call 01823 663597 for further details.

Auditions for the main roles take place on Sunday, February 7, from 2pm at the arts centre.

In the show, Jerry and Joe, on the run from gangsters having witnessed a gangland murder, disguise themselves as women in order to join Sweet Sue’s band and get safely to Miami.

But things get even more complicated when Joe falls for the band’s singer, Sugar Kane, played in the film by Marilyn Monroe.

More complications set in when millionaire Sir Osgood Fielding falls for Jerry, who he believes is band member Daphne.

As usual everything comes right in the end – or does it?

Sugar is at The Wellesley from May 10-14.
