THE Wellington Folk and Custom Society has held its annual Wassail ceremony at the Cottage Inn and in the Peace Garden of the Quaker Meeting House in High Street.
The event began at the pub where the Bootstrap Border Morris team, traditional folk musicians and local revellers, came out in support.
They then headed to the peace garden, chanting and ringing the Wassail bell on route.
At the peace garden Lord Misrule, Mr Double Danger the 2nd, opened the proceedings, handing over to Master of Ceremonies George Fenn, who spoke about the ancient custom going back Anglo-Saxon times.
The Wise Maiden was Rowen Wilde, who placed toast soaked in honey in the tree to bring in the good spirit of the Robin.
The society’s Wassailers continued singing before returning to the Cottage Inn to for more celebrations with Bootstrap Border Morris team dancing in the car park, their electric guitar folk-rock supporting their dance routines.
