WESSEX Water will be carrying out major improvement work in several streets in Wellington starting early next month.
The streets involved are Barn Meads Road, Post Close, Monument Close, Queen’s Road, Grange Close, Elworthy Drive, John Grinter Way, Lyddon Close, Bluett Road, Kitts, Oakfield Park and Homefield.
The water company has explained to householders: “We’re replacing water mains in your area as the existing are reaching the end of their serviceable life and this will ensure you have improved water quality and a more reliable supply. This will involve replacing the ageing main with new plastic pipes using a technique where we make small excavations to minimise inconvenience.
“Work will start in Barn Meads Road and Elworthy Drive on Tuesday, April 4. We anticipate that it will take about 38 weeks to complete the replacement in roads.
“The existing water main runs through footpaths between roads and these will have to be temporarily closed when we are replacing the main at these locations. We will use advance warning signs to let you know when this is going to occur.
“We will be using a mixture of temporary overland pipe to supply properties and mains shuts to facilitate the replacement, and householders will be notified of any supply interruption at least 48 hours in advance.”
