RESIDENTS of the Abbeyfield Society’s Ivy House held ‘a wonderful Christmas party’ to celebrate the fact that were still in the Wellington development after a difficult year where the charity told them it might be closed.

Abbeyfield decided it wanted to close or sell both Ivy House, in Corams Lane, and its other Wellington development the Old Vicarage, in High Street, in the wake of huge financial losses for the charity.

But recently it said there appeared to be a buyer interested in taking on and keeping both sets of sheltered flats open.

Ivy House manager Alisha Cordy organised fun and games for residents to celebrate and even took part in the game Pie Face herself.

Ms Cordy said bagatelle, bingo, singing, eating, and drinking were all part of the festive evening’s entertainment with ‘lots of laughter which was much needed and a good night had by all’.

She thanked the residents who attended and made it a ‘very special’ evening, and Brian, John, and Pete, whom she roped into receiving a potential cream pie in their face.

Ms Cordy said: “I absolutely love my job.”
