THE 40th anniversary of Wellington Museum will be celebrated at the end of the month. The museum, in Fore Street, opened on April 29, 1983.
Although the size of the museum has remained unaltered over the years, the items on display and the collection of local history documents and pictures has changed considerably.
It is not just a ‘Museum of Wellington’ but also an extensive source of pictures and documents relating to the town and the surrounding villages.
The museum’s 41st season was formally inaugurated by Ed Oldfield, editor of the Wellington Weekly News, who said: “It is great to see the museum back in action, supported by a dedicated team who are telling to story of Wellington and its people to visitors and locals.
"There are fascinating displays and I would urge everyone go go along and take a look.”
During its 40 years, the museum has always been run by volunteers, more of whom are needed to help keep it going.
Anybody who would like to contribute to continuing its valuable contribution to maintaining a record of Wellington’s history and heritage should call into the museum, which can be found opposite Lloyds Bank, to leave their contact details.
