A NURSE from Wellington has secured a spot in the 2026 London Marathon on behalf of a national children’s charity.

Aimee Hill, 47, says she hopes to witness the “humanity of the population” next April.

The mother of two, Mrs Hill had joined the marathon ballot for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024, with no luck.

On Friday, July 4, the nurse discovered she had succeeded in securing a spot with Children’s Society for her first marathon.

With just nine months until the big day, Mrs Hill is out training almost every day. While her husband, she said, achieved a speedy marathon in his youth, the Springfield resident still hopes to hit a respectable 4.5 hour time.

She said: “Do you know, I’ve watched the marathon for so many years, and I think the event screams humanity.

“When you think of the marathon, everyone is in it together. For once in my life, I’d love to be part of that and to witness the kindness and the humanity of the population.”

An ADHD nurse, Mrs Hill said it is her experience working with vulnerable young people locally, oftentimes at the Wellington Community Hospital, that led her to support Children’s Society, a charity providing specialist support to empower young people to make change and live with hope for the future.

For the charity, the nurse must raise £2,500 which she hopes to achieve by February. She says she’s already passed the £300 mark with the help of her “lovely family, friends, and neighbours on Springfield Road.”

As part of her efforts, Mrs Hill has thought to host a mince pie event, selling ice cream from her bike, and possibly even some busking. A timeline of fundraising events, she said, is yet to be finalised.
