A RECORD-setting number of women entrepreneurs attended the September meeting of Wellington Women in Business (WWB) as the group started its autumn season after a summer break.
The meeting saw 27 attendees, some of whom were familiar faces and others new members for the gathering in Wellington Community Centre.
The theme was ‘back to business’ with the flamboyant Laura Burrow as guest speaker for the evening, guiding people through her empowering presentation on public speaking, unlocking their potential, and being the very best version of themselves in the business world.
Since the birth of WWB in March this year, public speaking and confidence within business had been a hot topic for the group, so members were pleased to finally have Laura on board.
With years of experience and a diverse background in acting, music, and being vice-chair of Devon and Somerset Speakers’ Club, Laura guided members in projecting confidence, charisma, and authenticity, while refining their unique speaking style.
Her dynamic approach blended the art of performance with the power of authentic communication, delivering transformative results.
The presentation was interactive and fun, with members participating if they wished to.
WWB co-founder Zoe Old said: “Great business meetings have the power to coax individuals out of their comfort zones and into the vibrant arena of collective innovation and this was certainly the case this evening.”
Laura Knight, of Smile and Save, said: “It was a fantastic evening as always.
“Thanks to the WWB community being such a friendly and supportive bunch of ladies, I even felt brave enough to stand up and speak.
“The guest speaker was very inspirational and full of useful tips for us, I would encourage any local businesses to get involved with this positive group.”
Marion Vincent, co-founder of WWB said: “We have had an overwhelmingly positive response to this month’s meeting.
“With the few apologies from ladies unable to make it, we will need a bigger venue at this rate.”
The group’s next meeting will be on October 11 and again will be held in Wellington Community Centre and is open to all local businesswomen at any stage of their business journey.
