WELLINGTON’s Wacky Wednesdays are taking off in a big way with more and more families taking part.

The Wellington One Team partnership organises the events with other organisations and the Wacky Wednesday Easter Extravaganza attracted almost 400 people to St John’s school in the town.

Families and children enjoyed free refreshments, face painting, an Easter trail and barbecue – just some of the entertainments laid on throughout the day. The main attraction proved to be the popular go-karts.

GLL Better, Taunton Deane Borough Council’s leisure services partner, entertained the children with egg and spoon races while youngsters also enjoyed arts and craft activities. The raffle was popular due to the great selection of prizes.

The One Team worked in partnership with Knightstone Housing, the borough council, Wellington getset team and GLL Better, and were joined by Wellington town guides, Secret World, Reminiscence Learning, Wellington Churches Together and Besom.

Wellington mayor Bob Bowrah attended the event with his wife Liz, and said a few words to welcome the families to the Easter event.

The organisers would like to thank Gareth Jones, head of St John’s Primary School, for allowing the school and grounds to be used, and a special thank-you to the caretaker, Andrew Fudge, for opening the school up during his holidays. Thanks also go to Terry Milton for his PA system and Court Fields community pre-school for the face-painting.

The Wacky Wednesdays have grown in popularity and the team is looking forward to hosting a variety of events in different locations around Wellington throughout the summer.

A spokesman for Wellington One Team said: “The positive feedback is testament to all the hard work and organisation – and seeing so many families having so much fun is what the whole day is all about.”
