HEAVY snow and ice brought Wellington and the surrounding area to its knees as Somerset experienced the worst snowfall in more than 27 years on Friday.

And just one degree Celsius made the difference between more heavy snow being dumped on our area on Monday night when a winter storm which had been forecast failed to live up to the threat.

However, some flooding was caused by a combination of heavy overnight rain and meltwater at Bradford on Tone when Bradford Bridge was closed on Monday morning to all but larger vehicles as the River Tone burst its banks.

Wiveliscombe was one of the hardest hit areas, being left without power for 36 hours after snow fell during Thursday night and Friday morning.
