TIME is running out to enter a Wellington in Bloom competition to create a wildlife area in a garden from only recycled materials.

Families, pre-school nurseries, schools, green volunteer groups and residents in care homes are invited to enter the competition open to all age groups.

The finished project should be between 1-3 metres square – a gazebo – easily accessible and give a range of small wild animals and insects a safe winter home.

Wellington in Bloom judges will visit the projects in November. The winning entry will receive a trophy of three hedgehogs given to WiB in memory of wildlife supporters Bridget and Michael Baker. The winner will keep the trophy for a year.

A spokesperson for WiB said: “We thank Odette’s tea rooms for generously allowing us the use of their window with their display of the trophy.”

Entry forms are available from Wellington Library and Odette’s or email [email protected]
