Businesses in the Wiveliscombe area have come out covered in gold in what is the peak season for hospitality and tourism awards.

Town restaurant Duende won Gold at the Somerset Life Food and Drink Awards as best restaurant of the year after only opening last year. The judges commented that the bistro-style décor helps to enhance the establishment and the whole ambience, creating a superb dining experience. Its inspiring use of ingredients to create flavoursome dishes was highlighted.

Then, at the Bristol, Bath & Somerset Tourism awards held at the Apex Hotel, Bath, three more businesses reined supreme.

The Cottage Beyond, Kittisford, a luxury self-catering property, described as ‘an oasis with all mod cons’ took gold for Access and Inclusivity. Owners Christine and Alan Ker said: “All credit for this award must go to our son Hugh, who slowly opened our eyes to the world of disability and gently led us on a journey of discovery, enlightenment and inspiration. Without him we would not have achieved the level of understanding we have supporting those with seen and unseen disabilities.”

Waterrow Touring Park took gold for Touring Camping and Caravanning Park for the third year in a row.  Owners Lynette and Jamie Cook were delighted with their hat-trick and said: “We have been here for five years now and the hard work we’ve done to the caravan park to make it look and feel so nice for our guests and our continued focus on customer service has really paid off.”

Newly established business Middle Stone Farm Luxury Glamping was awarded Gold in the Glamping and Alternative Accommodation category. Owners Catherine and Patrick Heard said: “We are absolutely thrilled! We haven’t been open very long, so to win a Gold Award at this early stage of our journey is fantastic both for us and for tourism in West Somerset.”
