SCHOOLS watchdog Ofsted has rated Wiveliscombe Primary School ‘Good’ in a new report.

The inspector’s visit was the first short inspection since the school was judged to be ‘Good’ in February 2013.

Helen Springett said in the report: “The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection.”

She added that head teacher Steve Duncan had led the school through a period of significant change since his appointment in September 2014 and had increased expectations for pupils’ outcomes.

He was determined that the ‘whole child’ should be celebrated and ensured that a clear passion for teaching and learning is evident throughout the school.

An increasing proportion of pupils attained the expected standards at the end of Key Stages 1 and 2 in 2016. Standards in 2016 were in line with those nationally.

Pupils said they enjoy learning and feel safe in their school, and appreciate the wide range of experiences the school provides.

Most parents who responded to Parent View, and those who spoke to the inspector, feel it is a good school. They have confidence that the school provides a safe and secure environment for their children.
