WORK has started on a controversial children's play area which some local residents say could attract antisocial behaviour.

Diggers moved in on Monday to start work on the new, £45,000 state-of-the-art play area at Howard Road, Wellington.

Officials at Taunton Deane Borough Council expect the facility to be up and running for local youngsters by the Easter holidays.

Deputy Mayor of Taunton Deane, Cllr Bob Bowrah, who is also a Wellington town councillor, turned the first turf at a ceremony at the site on Monday, watched by fellow councillors and a handful of local people.

But some locals are far from happy about the prospect of the new play area on their doosteps.
