WELLINGTON gained a 19pts-17 home win over Regional Two Seven side Keynsham in a pre-season rugby friendly at the Athletic Ground over the weekend.

"I know you should not look too much into friendlies, but it was a very encouraging display by our lads," said Wellington secretary Ashley Colman.

"We had a lot of youngsters playing while they fielded a bigger and more experienced side. They're second try looked seriously like a forward pass.

"We have now had two good friendlies at the Athletic Ground - both of which have been well attended. We're all looking forward to our first league game."

Charlie Snow, Toby Redwood and Rob Hooper scored tries for Wellington with Alex Davey kicking two conversions.

Wellington, who have no game this coming weekend, kick off the new season with an away game against Burnham on Sea in Regional Two South West on Saturday week (Sept 2), while Wiveliscombe lst XV are away to Kingsbridge in Western West.
