WELLINGTON’S football manager Clive Jones says he is reluctant to sign new players despite not being able to field a full strength side for the past couple of weeks.
“We have a good squad of players when they are all fit,” said Jones last night. “I’m happy with the squad which is capable of beating any side in the division when at full strength. I also don’t agree with loan signings.
“We got a good point at Portishead on Saturday even though we were without some players.
“We went back to the basics. We have been too open at the back. We worked from the back instead of working from the front.
“Mitch Woodgate has also done a good job in goal since he came into the side. I rate him and he was outstanding on Saturday. I think the defence is comfortable with him in goal. I also thought Jamie Fleet had a good game at Portishead. He is not always available because of work but I’ve worked it out he should be able to play for the next six or seven games.”
Next up for Wellington is a home game against Warminster on Saturday and Jones is hoping that Jamie Clough and Conor Bryant will have recovered from injury although both were still doubtful earlier this week.
Warminster are lying 13th – four places above Wellington who have also played two more games than their opponents.
Wellington Reserves, who play in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League and lost 2-1 at home to Westexe on Saturday, are without a match but Hemyock will be looking to maintain their improved form when they play away to Culm.
Wellington Thirds, disappointing in losing 5-3 at home to Seaton Town Reserves, are away to Colyton Reserves in Division 7.
Milverton Rangers, who gained a surprise 3-2 win over Staplegrove Reserves in the Taunton Saturday League’s KO Cup, are home to Watchet Town Reserves in the second division.
