WELLINGTON Wildcats Under 11s put in another spirited display against a strong Bridgwater United side in the Somerset Girls Football League.
From the first whistle, the Wildcats showed real heart, pressing high, working tirelessly for each other and competing for every ball with great energy. Their growing confidence was clear in the way they played together as a team. The defence stayed brave and switched on, reading the game well and stepping in with some excellent tackles.
In midfield, the players battled for every challenge, while the forwards worked hard to put the opposition defence under constant pressure. It was a performance full of determination, development and resilience – everything you want to see from a young team. There is so much to be proud of and plenty more to look forward to.
Meanwhile, Wildcats Under 16s delivered an outstanding first league performance of 2026 with a convincing 7–2 away victory against Burnbridge Wanderers, despite not having played a competitive match since 29th November.
Wildcats started brightly from the first whistle, making excellent use of the full width of the pitch. Early possession was worked effectively into wide areas, with McKayla H and POTD Orlaith C stretching the Burnbridge defence and creating problems down both flanks. Orlaith C opened the scoring to reward a confident start and settle the visitors quickly into their rhythm.
In the centre of the park, the midfield trio of Ella D, Erin C and captain Lola H were dominant throughout. Their energy, intelligence and positional discipline prevented Burnbridge from getting the ball wide, while also allowing Wildcats to dictate play and create chances of their own. Emilia S was the main beneficiary, producing a clinical first-half hat-trick as Wildcats moved the ball with purpose and tempo. The control and cohesion shown were reflected in the 4–0 half-time lead.
Burnbridge threatened early in the second half following a change in their tactics, scoring two quick goals that briefly shifted the momentum and tested Wildcats’ resilience.
Wildcats responded with composure and maturity at a crucial stage of the match. Goalkeeper Jasmine S made a couple of outstanding saves at 4–2 to deny Burnbridge any further encouragement and restore confidence across the team. At the back, the defensive unit of Immy M, Jess B, Flo S, Darcey B and Isla C were outstanding throughout, not only in their defensive duties but also as the first line of attack for Wildcats.
Their willingness to step in, win possession and play forward allowed Wildcats to regain control and build sustained pressure. Wildcats were also able to rotate players throughout the game without losing structure, intensity or balance, highlighting the squad’s depth and adaptability. With control re-established, Emilia S added further goals to complete an excellent individual performance, before captain Lola H completed the scoring to cap a dominant, disciplined and well-rounded team display. It was a performance built on teamwork, resilience and quality across the pitch, providing a perfect platform for the rest of the season.
