ROCKWELL Green Short Mat Bowls Club have won a six-team inter-club event, having been runners-up for the past two years.
The other teams taking part were Hemyock, Kingsmead, Kingscliff, Staplegrove and Oaktree.
Meanwhile, following their success in winning a charity event run by Bradford on Tone, the Green were invited to play a friendly match at Bradford.
The Green travelled with high hopes and, as always, were greeted with a warm welcome.
Starting off (Green names first ) Graham, Reg & Mike played Bill, John & Graham. All looked pretty even after five ends with the hosts leading by one shot, 4--3, but that was as good as it got for the Green who did not gain another shot and went down 11--3.
Next up Syd, Bill & Bob were matched with Bob, Dave & Paul. The Green trio found life hard, not gaining a shot until the 8th end and a two on end nine was far too little too late, Bradford winning by 9- 3.
The break was taken for tea & coffee with the home team holding a substantial lead, 20--6. During the break some Bradford players suggested that the Green join the league. The Green are not keen to do so but members would be asked.
Starting again Graham, Reg & Mike R played John H, Gill & George. The Green were level after four ends at two each. Then the Green's wheel came off and they failed to score another shot giving Bradford a rather flattering 10--2 victory.
Last up Syd, Bill & Bob took on Stephanie, Pete & Graham. With only a consolation to play for the Green trio were only 6--7 down with two to play but the home trio pulled out the stops to take the remaining two2 ends, giving themselves a 11---6 victory. While the final score was a 41--14 home win it was not a reflection on the Green's play.
