THERE have been some exciting matches in the Afternoon League at Wellington Bowling Club during the past week.
Eight teams came to do battle. Each team had four players and all were keen to play well in order to earn their team a high place in the table.
Tony Gibson's Trailblazers were top coming into their match against Chris Thorne's fifth placed Yzeds. Sadly for Yzeds, the Trailblazers were on top form and led 10 - 0 after just three ends. It didn't get much better for the unfortunate Yzeds as the game went on and Trailblazers won it by a substantial 30 shots to 3.
The Blackbirds and Hopefuls were level on points in third and fourth places respectively coming into their game.
Darren Sparks' Hopefuls and Martin Speakman's Blackbirds were fairly even all through the game but the Hopefuls pulled ahead in the second half and won it after a tight battle 15 – 9.
Demons were bottom of the table ahead of their game against Ninchers who were one place above them.
Ernie Windsor's Demons made up for their losses in earlier games and set off at a good pace. Phil Harris' Ninchers had it all to do but despite their best efforts couldn't stop the Demons who played a very good game and won it by 19 shots to 6.
Nick Channon's Eagles were lying in second place in the table coming into their game against Peter White's Badgers who were in sixth.
The Eagles have been flying high all season and Badgers struggled to stay with them as they powered to a 12 – 1 lead after just five ends.
Beavers scored a few more shots but the Eagles were unstoppable and went on to win comfortably 22 shots to 5.
