A TEAM representing the Wellington & District Winter Pool League competed in the South West Championships which was staged at Allstars, Exeter.

Thirty-two teams from Bristol, Dorset, Somerset, Gloucester, Devon and Cornwall took part in this pretigious tournament.

The event began with group matches and Wellington beat Bristol B and Barnstaple before losing to an Exeter Legends side. However, they still managed to progress to the last 16 of the competition and gained another victory over a strong side from Newton Abbott.

It meant they moved into the quarter-finals before they lost to the eventual runners-up in the competition from Cornwall. The winners of the tournament were a team from the host city Exeter.

Each team consisted of nine players and the event was played under international rules.

Wellington can be proud of the way they played in a competition which attracted some of the best pool players in the Westcountry. They will also have gained some valuable experience.
