WELLINGTON Bowling Club have enjoyed three great Mixed Triples League games during the past week. Wellington A played at home against Minehead A, Wellington C were also at home against Taunton Vivary D while Wellington B were away against Bridgwater C.
The two Wellington teams who played at home both won comfortably while the B team who were away to Bridgwater lost in a very tight match by just 7 shots.
Andy Copping, Paul Kelsall and skip Henry Richbell's C team were firing on all cylinders on rink One against a Taunton Vivary D team. They led from the start and won it by ten shots 19 – 9.
On rink 2, Phil Hutchings, Monica Carter and skip Ken Brown found themselves in a good old battle against Taunton. By the 11th end the two teams were level on eight shots each. Ken encouraged his teammates to do their best and they did. They pulled ahead to deservedly win 15 – 10
Kevin Austin, Liz May and skip Darren Sparks also had a difficult time early on. They were chasing the game on five shots to Vivary's six but they pulled it together in the end game to win a close match 19 – 14.
So Wellington C won a comprehensive victory on all three rinks and with an overall score of 53 to Taunton Vivary's 33.
Wellington A team were also at home against Minehead A. Christine Willcocks, Paul Kelly and skip Graham Brown were on top form on rink One, scoring steadily and consistently in the early game to give them a good lead. The Minehead trio fought back later in the game but it was too late by then and the Wellington trio won it 20 – 13.
Nick Channon, Gill Groves and skip Phil Ellis had a game on their hands early on. By the halfway stage the teams were level on 11 shots each. In the last ends, Wellington just pipped the Minehead team at the post by two shots, 15 – 13.
On the last rink, Mike Copping, Tony Gibson and skip Mike Groves had a hard time of it in the first half. The Minehead side took the lead to begin with but the Wellington trio struck back and won fairly comfortably in the end by 22 shots to Minehead's 10.
Wellington were the winners on all three rinks and took an overall victory by a very convincing 57 shots to 36.
The away game against Bridgwater was a hard fought battle from start to finish. Steve Horrill, Eddie Dilley and skip David Beaudet started well enough but the Bridgwater side overtook and pulled ahead to win it in the end by five shots 15 – 10.
On the next rink Wendy Scott, Roger Murphy and skip Bill Warnett also began well and there was little between the teams but the Bridgwater trio just managed a victory by three shots, 17 – 14.
Tracey Richbell, Alan May and skip Ian Hollingsworth were invoolved in a very close match against very strong opposition.
With one end to play the teams were level on 11 shots each. In the final end Ian Hollingsworth's side took the all important single shot to win it 12 – 11.
The overall score was 43 - 36 to Bridgwater.
