WELLINGTON Bowling Club are busy preparing for their Open Day which will be staged on Sunday, May 3 (between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.), writes Martin Speakman.

They are hoping would-be bowlers will come along and try their hand at the great game of bowls.

Meanwhile, six teams from North Petherton came to play friendlies against the A and B teams from Wellington last weekend.

Wellington's three A teams had a good win but North Petherton's B teams came through to win their match and level the scores at one each.

Mike Copping, Rob Newton, Jay Merrell and Nick Channon's A team were level on 7 – 7 after eight ends but they came through well to win 20 – 14.

Peter Barlow, Roger Murphy, Roy Marriott and Phil Ellis came from behind to overtake and pull ahead for a strong victory on their rink 19 - 9.

Mark Bond, Bill Warnett, Graham Brown and Tony Gibson were leading comfortably by 19 shots to 10 after ten ends but the North Petherton quartet fought back to pinch it on the line 20 – 19. The overall final score was a victory to Wellington's A team 58 - 43.

John Lane, Steve Dunbar, Darren Sparks and Henry Richbell's B team had a really close match. With one end to play they were 13 – 14 down but they managed one shot in the last to make it a draw 14 – 14.

Ron Elston, Dave Harrison, Andy Pearce and Paul Kelly did not get off to a good start and although they fought back in the second half the North Petherton four won by 20 shots to 10.

Ernie Windsor, Tony Woollard, Andrew Baird and Alan May played a really good game to win 22 – 13 but the overall result was a victory to North Petherton's B teams by one shot, 47 - 46.
