WELLINGTON Bowling Club is looking forward to their Open Day which will be staged at its Coram’s Lane base on Sunday, May 25, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to come along to try their hand at bowls which can be played by any age group - and to enjoy some refreshments.
Meanwhile, Wellington’s A, B and C teams played in the Mixed League. All three did well. The A and B teams won comfortably and the C team lost, but came close.
In the A team home match against Bridgwater B, Julian Street, Christine Willcocks and skip Graham Brown were playing catch up but they overtook near the end to pinch it 21 – 18.
Mike Copping, Tony Gibson and skip Mike Groves took the lead on their rink and held it to win comfortably 21 – 14.
Darren Sparks, Gill Groves and skip Nick Channon were 18 shots ahead, 20 – 2. It's hard to believe but the Bridgwater side didn't give any more away all game and won 21 - 20.
Wellington were victorious with an overall score of 62 shots to 53.
The Wellington B teams did even better against Williton B away. Peter White, Monica Carter and skip David Beaudet won comfortably 32 – 8. June Anderson, Alan May and skip Ian Hollingsworth did even better, winning 32 – 5 and Wendy Scott, Roger Murphy and skip Bill Warnett won 25 – 7 to give Wellington a resounding victory 89 – 20.
The C teams found it harder against Taunton Vivary, away. Phil Hutchings, Lynda Manning and Ken Brown did well to get a 20 – 20 draw but Liz May, Ernie Windsor and Andrew Baird lost by four shots, 14 – 18 and Will Smith, Paul Kelsall and Clive Manning lost 18 – 11. The final score was a 56 - 45 win to Vivary.
