THE closing of the green at Wellington Bowling Club has been enjoyed by everyone with 12 teams of four bowlers playing in the last competition of the season.

Club President Mike Groves organised everything and did his best to put together teams of similar ability to play one another.

All the teams were given a different colour name and they all played three games of six ends.

The eventual winners were Debbie Lane, Paul Kelly Andy Pearce and Nick Channon's Black team who played extremely well and celebrated being champions of the day.

The Green team and Gold team were jointly in second place. In the Green team were Mike Groves, Barry Cutler, Patricia Harvey and Steve Lovell while Alan Moore, Bill Warnett, Liz May and Diana Dagg were in Gold and they excelled themselves by getting a “hot-shot” which is when a team score the maximum eight shots in the same end.

When it was all over, the president presented prizes to the winners and everyone enjoyed well earned refreshments in the clubhouse.

Many bowlers at the club will miss playing outside on the six rink green but they can take some comfort from having an indoor rink which they can play on all through the winter months.

There will be many opportunities for everyone to enjoy bowling but there is only one rink so the timetable is pretty full all through the season.

Many enjoy playing in the “roll-ups”. These are opportunities for groups of bowlers to go along at the same time each week and play against one another.

Then there are men's leagues, ladies leagues and mixed leagues each week and at weekends, not forgetting the competitions which run before and after Christmas.

Members of Wellington Bowling Club are very fortunate that they can enjoy playing bowls all year long.
