THERE have been three matches played in the Men's League at Wellington Bowling Club. Graham Brown's Welly team won against the Spoofers, Jay Merrell's Bowlsheviks beat the Vikings and Tony Gibson's Fun Loving Lads carried the day against the Newbies.

Charlie Williams, John Lane, Andrew Pearce and Darren Sparks' Spoofers began well, taking the lead in the first end. But after that and despite their best efforts, they struggled to score many more. Brian Wombwell, Geoff Jenkins, Paul Kelly and Graham Brown's Welly team played extremely well, scoring consistently all through the game to win comfortably by 16 shots to 4.

Phil Wiggan, Alan Moore and Martin Bond's Vikings did not have the very best bowls session this time around. They were a man short and Andy Copping, Stewart Dunbar, Martin Porter and Jay Merrell's Bowlsheviks were in fine form and made life very difficult for their opponents.

Despite that, Vikings were only two shots behind after five ends but after that things went downhill rapidly and the Bowlsheviks came away with a creditable 22 shots to 5 victory.

Peter Barlow, Chris Thorne, Ernie Windsor and Mike Connor's Newbies started well by winning the first end.

However, Barry Cutler, Bill Warnett, Ian Hollingsworth and Tony Gibson's Fun Loving Lads were in fine fettle and picked up a four in the second end and then to add insult to injury, a terrific seven in the third to take the lead by 11 shots to 1.

Newbies were down but not out, however, and they collected another four shots in the next two ends but they were still a long way behind and despite their very best efforts the Fun Loving Lads were just too good on the day and finished up with a comfortable victory by 23 shots to 9.
