WELLINGTON Bowling Club had a very busy time as it welcomed teams from Taunton and Ilminster to play against their A and C teams respectively, while Wellington's B team set off for a game in Burnham-on-Sea.

Both Wellington A and B were able to come away with a pair of good wins, and while the C team almost made it a clean sweep of victories for the week, they narrowly missed out, losing by just one shot to Ilminster B.

Paul Kelly, Julian Street and Graham Brown's A side were having to play catch up in their match against Taunton B, where the opposition were leading by just one shot with one to play, the score at that point being 14 – 13.

It would take two very well placed bowls in the very last end of the game which gave the Wellington trio a well deserved victory, with a final score of 15 – 14.

On the next rink over there was another nail biter of a game. Gill Groves, Darren Sparks and skip Nick Channon found themselves five shots down after 12 ends.

Despite being close to defeat, Wellington were able to make a strong comeback and took four of the last five ends to win their game 14 shots to 12.

With the scores so very close, it all depended on the result of the last rink. Jay Merrell, Tony Gibson and skip Mike Groves felt the pressure when they found themselves 13 -15 down with just one end to play, once again proving to be a very tight affair.

However, the Wellington trio were able to hold their nerve and came out of the game victorious, taking three shots in the very last end to pinch it 16 – 15.

This meant that the overall result was a win for Wellington on all three rinks and a victory by 45 shots to 41.

In the B side’s visit to Burnham-On-Sea, June Anderson, Alan May and skip Ian Hollingsworth did not get off to a good start against a strong Burnham trio.

They found themselves going 8 – 2 down early on in the match, but they were able to settle quickly and after 8 ends they moved ahead for a comprehensive victory, 25 – 12.

Captain Ian Hollingsworth said that Alan May should be Man of the Match and June Anderson Lady of the Match following their excellent bowling.

Wendy Scott, Roger Murphy and skip Bill Warnett had a more difficult job on their rink. The Burnham trio were on top form and moved further and further ahead. Wendy, Roger and Bill did their best but lost in the end 22 – 8.

Peter White, Henry Richbell and skip David Beaudet pulled out all the stops in a closely fought battle. They took a small lead early on and held on to win by 8 shots, 20 – 12.

The final score was a well deserved victory to Wellington B by 53 shots to 46.

Wellington's C team were at home to Ilminster B.

Allan Samuel, Lynda Manning and skip Ken Brown had a good win 24 – 13 but despite their best efforts the other two teams lost 18 – 10 and 17 – 13 which gave Ilminster B victory by just one shot, 47 – 46.
