ON A wet and blustery Saturday, Wellington Bowling Club welcomed teams from Glastonbury and Yeovil in the Men's League. Their A and B teams performed very well indeed.
The A team were on top form and triumphed on all three rinks while the B team came close but lost overall by four shots after a very competitive match.
Wellington A team's Pete Nichols, Paul Kelly, Jay Merrell and skip Graham Brown led 12 – 0 after only five ends. Glastonbury's foursome started to pick up the pace but it was too late and Wellington won comfortably 25 – 12.
On the next rink the Glastonbury team began well and the teams were level on 4 shots each early on but Mike Copping, Roger Murphy, Nick Channon and skip Mike Groves bowled extremely well and stormed ahead for a good and deserved win 22 – 12.
On the last rink Darren Sparks, Ian Hollingsworth, Bill Warnett and skip Tony Gibson were in a spot of bother against a very strong Glastonbury team. They were three shots down after 11 ends at 8 – 11 but they fought back hard and pinched it in the end 24 – 19
It was a great result for Wellington. They won on all three rinks with a terrific 71 – 43 victory.
The Wellington B team of Steve Horrill, John Lane, Tony Weston and skip Alan May were 2 shots down after two ends but they moved ahead soon after that and never looked back for a well deserved victory by 24 – 10.
Henry Richbell's foursome did their best but lost in the end 26 – 11 and Alan Every's team also came close but were three down at the end, losing 15 – 18.
The final score was Wellington 50, Yeovil 54.
