IT HAS been a jam-packed week of tennis commitments at Wellington Tennis Club.
Firstly, the club held its first Cardio Tennis session in 2018 and five non- members also joined in with members to hit forehands, backhands and volleys while running around to energetic music.
Dan Sizer, head coach, ran the session and the next session will be on Tuesday, March 6 at 6:30 pm. Call 07795221159 if you’re interested in attending. £5 for non- members and rackets can be lent for the session.
Also, the club resumed its winter friendly matches and they played away at Hemyock. Sue Rackley partnered Ian Davies and they won their two sets against Hemyock’s Susie and Grant. Reigning Veterans’ Doubles champions, Philippa Deem and Simon Cross enjoyed a close match against Hemyock’s Dan and Lucy and it was a set each.
Then a ladies’ and men’s doubles were played with Philippa and Sue triumphant. However, Hemyock’s Dan and Grant won the men’s match. Overall Wellington won 5 -3.
The club play again at Wellington next week while the Winter League team play home on Tuesday.
On Thursday, the Wellington club also held its AGM where a review of the year and their hopes about the forthcoming award from Persimmon Healthy Communities were discussed. “Gaining a lump sum of money would enable us to move forward with the project immediately. Please, if anyone can vote once every 24 hours, use the link below. Voting closes in 21st March,” Chair Sue explained.
