REIGNING champions Ashbrittle collected a haul of 35 points in the first division of the West Somerset Cricket League - without hitting a ball.

Bridgetown, who had opened their season with a seven-wicket home win over Morebath the previous weekend, conceded their latest game against last year’s winners.

Meanwhile, Bagborough were the biggest winners in the first division, beating East Huntspill at home by 198 runs. Henry Stirzaker was the star for Bagborough, scoring an 85-ball 121 not out, hitting 11 fours and seven sixes.

Tom Herdmen also scored 59 not out, sharing in an unbeaten fifth-wicket stand of 167 with Stirzaker as Bagborough piled up 314-4 in their 40 overs.

It proved a tough day in the field for East Huntspill who were bowled out for 116 in only 16.3 overs with Ollie Watt being their leading scorer with 45 not out.

Stirzaker was Man of the Match, taking 5-30 in 5.3 overs. Mathew Rafill snapped up 2-27 while there was one wicket apiece for Daniel Mathews and Blake Jones.

Kieran Barrow was another century-maker, scoring 120 not out for Over Stowey who gained a 189-run success against Winsford. Barrow knocked ten fours and six sixes.

Stowey made 243-8 in their 40 overs with Sam Thomas also hitting 27 and Shay Keohane 17. Henry Dunn, Andrew Blackmore and Ben Harding all took two wickets.

Thomas was the bowling star for Stowey, taking 5-26 in his 8.2-over stint, while Hayden Langlois took 3-23 in seven overs as Winsford were shot out for 54 in 16.2 overs, losing their last eight wickets for 25 runs.

In the only other game played in the first division, Kilve were six-wicket winners at home to Morebath, who have now lost their opening two matches.

Morebath, batting first, were all out for a disappointing 140 in 35.1 overs with Joe Weeks being their top scorer with 45. Tom Willcox did the most damage with the ball, taking 4-10 in 6.1 overs. Jim Taylor and Dean Marchant also took two wickets.

Chris Taylor knocked 36 for Kilve while Jay Darrell made 21 not out and Peter Stone 19 not out. R Bowden took 3-20 in nine overs for Morebath.

In the second division, Churchinford made it two wins from two matches when they beat Roadwater at home by eight wickets. Roadwater were all out for 107 with Mark Bolton scoring 42. Kristan Morgan took 4-36 and James Troy-Brown 5-17.

Ali Layard was 49 not out and Luke de Hann 18 not out as Churchinford knocked off the runs in 16 overs.

There was a much closer match at Stoke St Mary where the home side lost by two wickets to Lydeard St Lawrence. Stoke were all out for 144 with opener D Callow scoring 53, which included ten fours. A Norie made 28 while Meek took 4-5.

Meek also top scored with the bat, steering Lydeard to victory with 68. J Alford, batting at No8, was 36 not out. T Sweet took 3-41 and B Gray 2-28.

Sampford Arundel’s hopes of a winning start were dashed when they went down by three wickets away to Crowcombe. Sampford scored 175-8 after being 103-8 with Rob Chave making an unbeaten 33 and Richard Milton 46 not out. Luke Willets hit 30 not out and Jack Lewis 30 as Crowcombe won in the 32nd over.
