WELLINGTON Cricket Club have announced the name of its new president to coincide with the start of the new season, writes David Derrick.
Long time avid club supporter Bernie Burnett has accepted an offer to succeed Simon Spalding, who stepped down from the post after five seasons service in October, 2025, to take up this appointment with immediate effect.
A club spokesperson said: “As a really well known figure on the local club cricket scene Bernie was a natural choice to succeed Simon. Bernie has a presence at all of our Saturday first team fixtures, be they at home or away, and also takes a keen and sharp interest in the fortunes of our second and third teams too, along with our ladies and junior sections.
“In this honorary, ambassadorial role Bernie will be on hand to project the club's image and message to a wider audience as well as offering guidance, advice and wise counsel to the club's senior leadership team.”'
