CUTCOMBE missed out on the runners-up spot in the third division of the West Somerset Cricket League when they lost by four wickets away to Ashbrittle’s second string.

Instead, Cannington are promoted along with new champions Hemyock despite crashing to an eight-wicket loss against Carhampton.

Cutcombe were bowled out for 147 by Ashbrittle, their leading batters being Mike Kidner, who scored 52, and Ben Gregory, who made 25. Leon Westcott snapped up 3-45, Rupert Gabriel 2-26, Michael Hill 2-18 and Peter Woodbury 2-6 from ten balls.

Ashbrittle were led to victory by veteran Andrew Hill who was 57 not out while Michael Hill scored 19, Gabriel 11 and Rob Popplestone, also 11.

Cannington collected only five points after they were bowled out for only 71 by Carhampton who lost only two wickets in knocking off the runs.

Stoodleigh, already relegated, lost their tenth match of the season when they went down by two wickets against Bishops Hull. James Herniman top scored with 73 for Stowey who made 192-7 in their 40 overs. Sam Bowker scored 44 and Alex Russell 36 while James Breakwell took 2-40 and Paul Lang 2-26.

Edward Smith led the run chase with a run a ball 59 not out for the Taunton side while Morgan Chanter scored 31. Luke Morphet took 3-14.

Minehead 3rd XI will join Stoodleigh in the fourth division next summer after finishing second from bottom.

New fourth division champions Wiveliscombe 2nd XI rounded off their season with an 81-run success against Stoke St Mary 2nd XI who were bowled out for 156 in 27.4 overs. Earlier, Wiveliscombe had made 237-8 in their 40 overs .

Buckland St Mary & Bishopswood will join Wiveliscombe in Division Three next season after finishing runners-up, 38 points behind the winners.
