A SUPERLATIVE display from Charlie Burrough, who hit a sparkling 121 not out for Wellington 3rds at Sampford Arundel in 85 balls, with fourteen fours and seven sixes, was the cornerstone of a 34-run Somerset League Division Seven South win for the side captained by Tony Hutchings in the absence of the injuredTyler Fyfe, writes David Derrick.

On being put into bat by early season divisional leaders Bishops Hull 2nd XI, Wellington's third string lost a wicket with the score at five as Simon Burrough was bowled by Hallas. Des Campbell with a capital 38 and Jhansherad Fernando with a blockbuster 28 off 12 balls with three sixes got the show back on the road; these knocks were complimented by another fast paced effort of 18 by Oli Hutchings.

Wickets came and went and with the score at 135-8, Wellington's third string was at a crossroads, but this was the trigger for Charlie Burrough to go into overdrive as he added 38 for the ninth wicket with Oly Dickens (7) as they took the overall score to 173-9.

He was joined by Hutchings and a further 72 critical runs were added to take Wellington to 245-9 at the end of their 40 overs as those present were in awe of Burrough's clean, tactical hitting that dominated the Hull attack for whom Lock with 3-43 in eight overs returned their best figures and escaped the majority of the onslaught.

Although Hull lost their skipper Northover for zero as Ben White bowled him in the first over and subsequently were deprived of the services of Lock, Wellman and Kershaw, opening batter Gloyn wasn't going to go down without a fight as he clubbed 91 in 92 balls with ten fours and three sixes.

A 122 run stand for the sixth Hull wicket between Gloyn and Hallas (59) to take their score to 189 and the pressure was on Wellington, but a steady hand was shown to end the Hull innings at 211 with 21 balls going spare with Ben White taking 3-32 in eight overs, Jay Jadeja 2-40 in eight overs, Charlie Burrough 1-55 in eight overs and a wicket apiece for Jhansherad Fernando and Oli Hutchings ended this high scoring affair; a superb gully catch from Jhansherad Fernando and three from that man Charlie Burrough are worthy of mention.

Meanwhile, it was a tough day in Division One of the Somerset League at Ilminster as the Red and Blacks second string found themselves on the wrong end of a ten wicket defeat.

Wellington were asked to bat first and saw Aks Latifi and Paul Short score 27 runs before Latifi was out for 11 including two fours. Short made 10 when he was third out with the score at 35.

Club Chairman Mark Salter with a defiant 48 made in 111 balls with five fours was supported by Fawad Sadat with 12, Archie Evans with 14 and skipper Rob Moysey with 14 as he was out at 152-8.

The Wellington innings ended on 165 as Kevin Symons, back with the club after a number of years away, was the unbeaten batter for Wellington. For Ilminster Harris with 3-29 and Rees with 3-31 were the main bowlers. Through McNee with 97no and Sims with 50no the hosts got home in 20.5 overs. Wellington 2nd XI 154, Ilminster 2nd XI 166-0.
