WELLINGTON posted as clinical a win as you could ever wish at home to Temple Cloud in the Somerset Division of the West of Somerset Premier League, writes David Derrick.
Jacob Hurry's charges won by a massive nine wickets with 41.4 overs to spare as a total that Cloud had taken 27.3 overs to get was achieved by the Red and Blacks in just 8.2 overs.
Hurry asked the visitors, now based in the Bath area, to bat first and he saw his deputy Toby Stirzaker serve up a brilliant ten over burst of accurate and clinical pace bowling that broke the back of the Temple innings.
Temple were reduced to 30-7 as excellent catching backed up Stirzaker who took 5-19 in ten overs of excellence; his new new-ball partner George Davis took 2-16 in six overs as he was a perfect foil to Stirzaker.
A combination of Oz O'Livey's medium pace on his home debut since moving from Taunton CC and off-spin from each of Arron Campbell and Lakshan Edirisinghe saw that Temple only just doubled their team score from the point at which they were seven down as Mortimer with 24 threw the bat from the number seven batting position.
Only Nicholson with 11 got into double figure territory other than Mortimer.
Wellington opened up with George Ruell and Toby Stirzaker, who took on the pinch hitting opener role in place of the absent Luke Desave, and they added 17 runs first up. Edirisinghe was Wellington's star turn with the bat as he smote 42 not out in 22 balls with seven fours and two sixes as he added 54 unbroken second wicket runs with Ruell who was 8 not out.
Wellington took 20 points and Temple Cloud faced a long journey back to Bath with zero points.
Scores: Temple Cloud 67, Wellington 71-1.
