WELLINGTON are through to the second round of the 20-overs a side Baker Cup cricket competition following an eight-wicket home victory over Yeovil.

Yeovil, who chose to bat first, were restricted to 90-9 in their allotted overs in this postponed tie with Siby Chacko top scoring with 22 while Jack Veale was 18 not out.

Wellington School student Stian Smith took 3-12 in five overs, while Nathan Yarde snapped up 3-21 and Tony Stirzaker 2-32.

Wellington's openers Arron Campbell (32) and Smith (23) put on 60 for the first wicket and Lakshan Edirisinghe (11 not out) and Jacob Hurry (18 not out) finished off the job by the end of the 15th over.

This was a good response by Wellington following their defeat by Wembdon in a rain-affected match in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League, particularly as Yeovil are riding high in the Somerset Division of the West of England League.

Meanwhile, Wellington will be looking to bounce back after their loss to Wembdon when they play away to Bridgwater 2nd XI in a league game on Saturday, June 14. Bridgwater are in fourth place in the table while Welington have slipped to eighth following their setback against Wembdon.

Wellington 2nd XI, who are lying second in Division Two of the Somerset Cricket League, are home to Frome 2nd XI who are five points adrift at the bottom of the table while Wiveliscombe are home to North Curry in Division Three.

Wellington 3rd XI are away to Taunton Deane 5th XI in Division Seven Red. The Deane are sixth while Wellington are eighth, but have played only five matches.

Weather permitting there will be a full programme of matches in the Somerset, Taunton & District Youth and West Somerset Cricket Leagues this weekend.
