FITZHEAD cruised to a ten-wicket win over Roadwater in the fourth division of the West Somerset Cricket League.

Roadwater, put into bat, struggled throughout their innings with Mark Bishop, who made 44, being the only batsman to reach double figures as the visitors were bowled out for 94.

It proved no problem for Fitzhead, who were relegated at the end of last season, as Sam Gregson-Brown led them to a decisive victory with 40 not out, his inning containing seven fours.

Victory enabled Fitzhead to move up to third in the table, behind leaders Buckland St Mary & Bishopswood who gained a six-wicket home success against Stoke St Mary who were bowled out for 130 after being put into bat.

In the only other game played in the division, Wiveliscombe were 175-run winners over East Huntspill who were shot out for under 100 when chasing a 250-run plus score.

Jude Kybert top scored with 72 for Wiveliscombe, who hit 267-6, a knock which included ten fours and three sixes. Ben Lipscombe was 60 not out while Ian Pincombe scored 23. Nigel Alway picked up 2-58.

Huntspill never seriously threatened to get the runs following the early loss of opener Alfie O’Regan and were all out for 92 with Ian Pincombe taking 5-24 and Warren Heyns 2-16.

With Buckland St Mary not playing this coming weekend, Roadwater have a chance to go top in their home game against Spaxton on Saturday, May 31. Fitzhead will also be looking to go above Buckland if they can pull off a win against East Huntspill away.

Buckland have a nine-point lead over Roadwater at the top of the table, both sides having played the same number of games, while Fitzhead are four points further adrift. Wiveliscombe are fourth, but have played only three matches and have only 48 points.
