THREE of Somerset’s bowlers Alfie Ogborne, JT Langridge and Jake Ball have signed extensions to their existing contracts, writes Richard Walsh.
Left arm seamer Ogborne has signed a one-year extension which will see him remain at Taunton until at least the end of 2027 season. The 22-year-old played his way through the Somerset Age Group system and was a part of the club’s Emerging Player Programme before joining the Potential Somerset Player Programme in the winter of 2020.
The former Ansford Academy and Richard Huish student played club cricket for North Perrott as well as representing Dorset before joining WEPL Premier One side Bridgwater CC. He made his full Somerset List A debut against Durham in 2022 and has gone on to feature in 17 List A matches and three First Class fixtures for the club, taking 28 wickets with a best of five for 41.
Ogborne was a member of the Somerset side that won the Second XI T20 competition last summer and played a vital role as the club reached the final of the 2024 Metro Bank One Day Cup.
He said: “I feel like I’ve had a couple of good years in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, and I want to make the most of any opportunities that come my way, and the goal is to become a regular in all formats.
JT Langridge, who is also a left arm seamer, has signed a two-year extension which will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2028 season.The 19 year old, who plays club cricket for Clevedon CC, joined the Somerset Pathway at Under 10 level and became a part of the SCCC Academy in the Autumn of 2022.
In 2023 he appeared for Somerset against Devon and Cornwall before making his List A debut in August of that year against Sussex in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. He featured in two further matches in the competition and was rewarded with a call up to the England Under 19 squad, making his debut in the ODI series against Ireland.
The left-arm seamer has featured in seven List A fixtures for the club, claiming seven wickets with a best of two for 34.
He said: “Over the next two years I want to do as much as I can for the team as a strike bowler, take lots of wickets, score lots of runs and do as much as I can to contribute to the team.
Jake Ball has signed a one-year extension which will keep him at the Cooper Associates until at least the end of the 2026 season. The 34-year-old joined Somerset ahead of the 2024 campaign and has represented the club on a total of 34 occasions, taking more than 50 wickets across the formats. Ball was also a key member of Somerset’s Vitality Blast winning side this year, claiming two wickets in the final against Hampshire at Edgbaston.
After signing Ball said: “It’s an extremely exciting time for the club at the moment. We won the Vitality Blast, did well again in the One Day Cup and are kept challenging in the County Championship. I’ve really enjoyed playing my part in that success and hopefully we can do even better next year.”
