WELLINGTON’S reward for their success at Ilminster over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend in the new WEPL Tier Three T20 Four Regions Cup is a trip to Trowbridge in Wiltshire on Sunday, 28th June, in the Second Phase Group Two where Bristol based Bishopston will complete the cast list, writes club secretary David Derrick.
With the opening day of the WEPL League season for 2026 on Saturday, 2nd May, being rain affected, Wellington and Bishopston both had drawn matches in the Somerset Division and the Bristol and North Somerset Division respectively, while Trowbridge lost in a rain reduced encounter in the Wiltshire Division.
The day after each of Wellington and Bishopston came out on top in their First Phase groups as the Red and Blacks saw off Ilminster CC and Taunton CC with Bishopston recording two rain affected wins against Keynsham CC and Frenchay CC and on Sunday 10th May, Trowbridge won one off game against Chippenham CC.
Second round match day league wins were recorded by Bishopston and Wellington as well as Trowbridge as the relative early season form of all three sides continues to match each other pretty well.
The geography now moves east to BA14 8PX with the following schedule. . . 10.00 Trowbridge v Bishopston, 13.00 Bishopston v Wellington, 16.00 Trowbridge v Wellington.
Wellington are already planning to take a large contingent to Wiltshire to cheer on Jacob Hurry's charges as they look to win a place in the competition's inaugural final which is likely to be in late July.
Meanwhile, Wellington Under 11s, playing in the Taunton and District Youth League's Under 11s West Division, took on their Taunton counterparts at Wellington Playing Field last Sunday morning and were narrowly beaten by eleven runs.
