WELLINGTON play their first home game of the season in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League when they meet Yeovil today, writes Barry Knott.

They will be looking to gain their second victory in eight days, having beaten Taunton Deane 2nd XI by five wickets in a low scoring game at The Convent Field last weekend.

The Deane were bowled out for only 62 with Wellington’s vice-captain Luke Desave snapping up an impressive 5-8 in 45 balls.

Wellington also experienced problems with run making before Man of the Match Desave steadied the ship with 19 not out as the visitors got over the line.

Desave described the bowling conditions as ideal for him. “It was a good all-round performance by us and I was the one who was lucky to get wickets,” he said afterwards.

Yeovil also got off to a winning start last weekend, beating North Petherton by 112 runs. Facing a run chase of 207 to win, Petherton were bowled out for 94.

Wellington 2nd XI will be aiming to bounce back after their 96-run home defeat by Taunton Indian when they play away to Butleigh 2nd XI in the fourth division of the Monmonth Scientific Somerset Cricket League.

Butleigh beat Long Sutton by ten wickets last weekend. Wiveliscombe are home to North Curry.

Wellington 3rd XI, without a match last Saturday, will be back in action tomorrow when they play away to Street 2nd XI in Division Seven Red.

Street won by 137 runs against Deane 5ths in their opening game of the season, bowling out their rivals for 44.

Brompton Ralph, surprise ten-wicket victors over first division champions Bishops Hull in the West Somerset League last weekend, play away to Bridgetown tomorrow.

It should be a good match with Bridgetown having won by seven wickets in a high-scoring match at Bagbrough last weekend. In the second division

Ashbrittle are home to Wiveliscombe’s second string while Churchinford play at Winsford.

Wellington will be looking to follow up their opening day win over Taunton Deane Tigers when they play Bagbrough away in the Taunton & District Youth League’s Under 13 11 a side section.
