WELLINGTON 2nd XI kept up the pressure at the top of the second division in the Somerset Cricket League with a thrilling one-wicket away win over bottom side Middlezoy.

Put into bat first, Middlezoy scored 209-8 in their 20 overs with Tony Flitton hitting 83 before being run out while Nathan Barnard made 57. Neil Hendy took 2-24 and George Davis 2-35, while there was a wicket apiece for Macaulay Campbell, Ollie Hunt and Oli Beale.

Wellington looked comfortable as they scored more than 100 runs with only one wicket down, but then they began to struggle. And, not for the first time this season, skipper Rob Moysey (23 not out) came to the rescue and, with Macaulay Campbell, shared in an unbroken tenth-wicket stand of 21 runs. Earlier Beale had scored 51 and Hendy 30.

Victory enabled Wellington to remain second in the table, only 18 points behind leaders West Monkton, both sides having played the same number of games.

With the first team soundly beating North Perrott in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League, Wellington 3rd XI made it a hat-trick of wins for the club by beating Staplegrove 2nd XI by 29 runs in Division Seven Red.

Batting first after winning the toss, Wellington scored 214-7 in their 40 overs with Des Campbell top scoring with 69 not out, an innings which included ten fours and a six, while Jack Holloway scored 39 and shared in a stand of 112 for the seventh wicket with Campbell.

Grove were bowled out for 185 in 30.3 overs with Connor Wickenden taking 4-45, Aayan Kazi 3-12 and Archie Evans 2-51.

Lee Pope was Grove’s top batter with 76 while Matthew Dunn made 31. Grove lost their last five wickets for only 33 runs.
