WELLINGTON 3rd XI lost a third Somerset League Division Seven South match in a row as leaders Trull 2nd XI gained a four- wicket win at Sampford Arundel. writes David Derrick.
Wellington chose to bat first and Simon Burrough and Des Campbell recovered from losing a wicket at one as they added 26 second wicket runs with Burrough striking four fours in a knock of 19 in only thirteen balls before Trull's outstanding bowler on the day - Osborne (6-14) - got him caught and bowled.
Wellington’s score dipped to 32-5 and latterly 46-6. Tom Winter - a signing from Brompton Ralph - began to build a debut innings of substance - and was part of a 39-run seventh wicket stand with keeper Max White that got Wellington to 85-7. with Winter making 42 not out.
He was joined by Jay Jadeja who supported him to get the score past three figures by which time Winter had posted a half-century. Craig Schultz and Winter found the momentum to carry Wellington to 182 all out in just 29.3 overs as the Trull support attack was taken apart as the ninth wicket added 58 runs with Winter making an eventual 88 (78 balls, nine fours and five sixes) and Schultz 42 (27 balls four fours and four sixes).
Trull lost two wickets to Jay Jadeja by the time their score had reached 27 before Bottomley (38 not out), Sampson (34), Palmer (32 not out) and Marshall (25) scored important runs. Jadeja (3-36) captured a third wicket and Fawad Sadat was fast and aggressive in taking 1-62 in seven overs.
Winter's day got better with figures of 2-32 in eight overs - and a catch too. When Trull were 109-6 with skipper Tyler Fyfe accepting a catch Wellington had a foothold in the game, but Bottomley and Palmer added an unbroken 74 runs for the seventh wicket.
